The 8 checks that separate a real aquarium supplier from a middleman
China supplies a large share of the world’s aquarium equipment — but not every exporter is the same. Before you place a trial order, run these eight checks.
1. Do they actually make the product?
Factories in Zhongshan, Guangzhou and the Pearl River Delta produce pumps, filters and heaters for most global brands. Ask for production-line photos or a video call — a genuine factory can show you the line, not just a showroom.
2. Voltages and plugs for your market
Electrical items must match your market: 110V for the US/Japan, 220V for the EU/UK. Confirm the plug type on the carton — EU, UK, US or AU — before production starts.
3. Can you order 10 units, not 1,000?
Testing a market should not mean buying a container. Look for a supplier with a low per-SKU MOQ and a mixed-MOQ policy, so a trial order can combine several products.
4. Samples in days, not months
Samples should ship within 3–5 days for catalog items. A good supplier deducts the sample cost from your first bulk order.
5. Pre-shipment QC you can see
Ask for a photo inspection report before every shipment. Reliable suppliers inspect every batch and share photos of units, packaging and cartons.
6. Private label without minimums that hurt
Custom colorways and cartons matter for retailers. Confirm the factory offers OEM/ODM with tooling costs that make sense for your order size.
7. Incoterms that match your logistics
FOB is standard, but CIF and DDP simplify life for new importers. Confirm documents, customs handling and tracking before you pay.
8. A single point of contact
You should talk to the same person from quote to reorder — not a ticket queue. One consistent contact means faster answers and fewer mistakes.
